Setting up Email Programs (other than Outlook Express)

There are normally four settings required by email programs in order to set them up to utilize a mail server. Capitol Broadband supports Microsoft Outlook Express as a standard. Go here for instructions on setting up Express.

For customers who wish to use other programs for email, we provide the following information to assist them in properly integrating them with the Capitol Broadband Network.

USERNAME
Set the Username variable to youremailaddress@capband.net where you would replace "youremailaddress" with the username you selected when you signed up for service (this is the same as your email address). For example, if your email address is johnsmith@capband.net, then this is what you would type in when asked to enter the username.

PASSWORD
This is the password you selected when you first registered for service. If you printed the Welcome page, it should be printed there beside Password.

INCOMING MAIL SERVER OR POP SERVER
The Incoming Mail Server which is sometimes referred to as the POP server should be set to mail.capband.net.

OUTGOING MAIL SERVER OR SMTP SERVER
The outgoing mail server variable sometimes referred to as the SMTP server should be set to mail.capband.net. Be sure to check "My server requires authentication" or a similar box in your outgoing mail server window. Then indicate for your email program to use the same settings for your outgoing mail server as the incoming mnail server.

EMAIL ADDRESS
Enter your email address (again, this is the same as your username on the Capitol Broadband system and should be similar to): youremailaddress@capband.net.
