1. What is Capitol Broadband™ High-Speed Wireless Internet?

   Capitol Broadband High-Speed Wireless Internet is delivered via a wireless connection from a wireless modem which attaches to your computer to an antenna near your residence which is connected Capitol Broadband’s internet gateway which allow for connection to the Internet.

   Capitol Broadband uses the most compatible high-speed wireless systems to enable you to easily take advantage all the internet has to offer. An email account (“yourname”@capband.net) is included at no extra charge.

 

2. How can you offer High-Speed Broadband Service for so much less than DSL and Cable Internet Access which is available in my area?

   New wireless technology costs are so much less than the costs to of running telephone lines or cable lines into your residence that we can offer the service for dramatically less than the phone or cable company.

 

3. How does Capitol Broadband High-Speed Wireless Internet work?

   Capitol Broadband High-Speed Wireless Internet is delivered via a wireless connection from a wireless modem which attaches to your computer to an antenna near your residence which is connected Capitol Broadband’s internet gateway which allow for connection to the Internet.

 

4. What does an "always on" connection mean?

   Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet gives you a dedicated connection between your computer and our wireless network. That connection is "always on," so there's no need to dial in. No waiting to get online. No more busy signals. Always on means the Internet is always just a click away. The always on connection does not mean that your computer is vulnerable to hackers. Instead, it means that when your computer is on, so is your connection to the Internet.

5. How fast is Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet?

   Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet is up to 50 times faster than a traditional analog modem connection; with speeds up to 2Mbps downstream and upstream.

 

6. Is Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet speed guaranteed?

   Connection speeds are not guarantied. Capitol Broadband offers a "best effort" service. That means we will always do our best to provide you with the fastest connection possible.

 

7. How much does Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet cost and is it available in my area?

8. What kind of computer do I need to get Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet?

   Check out our System Requirements page.

 

9. What operating systems do you support?

     We currently support only Windows 98se, ME, 2000, and XP. Other operating systems that support wireless technology (including Macintosh) should work, however we do not provide any technical support for any systems other than Windows based operating systems. You may need to consult your owner's manual to configure your service if you have one of the systems we do not support.

 

10. Can I use my existing wireless modem equipment?

     Yes, but Capitol Broadband can not guarantee the level of service when using equipment not recommended by us.

 

11. What type of browser is used for Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet? Can I use my own?

   Capitol Broadband recommends and supports Internet Explorer as a browser and Outlook Express for email. Most email programs and browsers will work with our system but we do not support them. We do provide data to allow them to be hooked up to our system. Please see our Customer Support page for details.

 

12. Which e-mail programs are supported?

   Currently we only support Microsoft Outlook Express for the PC. Many other email programs will work with our system, however we donot offer technical support in setting them up. You can follow the basic instructions in "Setting up other programs for your email" on our Customer Support page to configure your email program.

 

13. Can I keep my email address from AOL, Earthlink, or another system?

   Yes. If you are interested in keeping your current email address, but want to sign up for our high-speed Internet access, you can have both! Most service providers, such as AOL, Mindspring and Earthlink, all have low-usage plans for around $5 a month. These plans will allow you to keep your current email address whilestill being able to use our faster, less expensive Internet access. 14. How does the installation process work?

     Upon signing up for service, you will be need to obtain a wireless device supported by the Capitol Broadband network.  Please vist you Leasing office for recommended wireless devices. The instructions included with you device, will guide you step by step through the installation process. See our Customer Support pages to configure your browser and e-mail. 15. Do I need cable or a phone line to get Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet?

     No, your Capitol Broadband High-Speed Wireless Internet service does not require cable or a telephone line. There is no "dialing in". If you currently have an extra line in your home so you may dial into the Internet, now is the time to unhook it and save yourself some money. Your home or apartment must be in an area where service is available. Capitol Broadband must deploy antennas near your residence for the service to be made available. 16. Will I get busy signals on my phone?

     No. You will never get busy signals with Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet because there is no phone line or dialing involved. Instead, you are directly connected to the Internet.

 

17. Can I make phone calls when using Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet?

   Yes. Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet sends data to and receives data from your computer using a wireless system that is independent of your telephone service. This means that you can make phone calls and use Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet at the same time!

 

18. Can I use a cordless phone to make phone calls when using Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet?

     Yes. But, 2.4 GHz phones use the same frequencies and can impact the wireless signal when used in proximity to your wireless device. It is recommend that 2.4 GHz phones are not used in the same room as you wireless device.

 

19. Can I still watch television when using Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet?

   Yes. Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet sends data to and receives data from your computer using a wireless system that is independent of both cable and satellite television. This means that you can watch your favorite television shows and use Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet at the same time!

20. What type of IP address will I have?

   Capitol Broadband will assign a Dynamic IP address to its customers. (This means your IP address will vary when you are connected to our network).

 

21. Will multiple users impact the speed of Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet?

     Bandwidth on our wireless system is shared, so it is possible for performance to vary depending on how many customers are actively using the system at any given time. It is worth noting, however, that this is also true for the Internet as a whole. The Internet is, in essence, one extremely large, shared network.

 

22. Am I allowed to network my Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet service?

     Yes, but Capitol Broadband will not provide technical support for networked computers. Capitol Broadband will only provide technical support for the Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet line and the primary PC on which it was installed.

23. I'm concerned about security. What features does Capitol Broadband High-Speed Internet have to protect me?

   Our service includes firewall software to protect you and your computer from unwanted users. We also use a Radius Authentication Server which dramatically increases the security of the system over typical wireless system implementations. The network at your apartment community is separated from the Internet by a router from Cisco Systems as well. This implementation is much more secure than the typical home wireless implementation. We highly recommend that you use anti-virus software to protect your machine from viruses.

24. My current Internet Service Provider sold my personal information and I get tons of unwanted emails, will Capitol Broadband sell my information?

No, Capitol Broadband will not sell or provide your information to any third parties. As stated in our agreements, your information will only be used by Capitol Broadband and its affiliates for the sole purpose of providing you with the best Internet service possible.
